About Scrabble Word Checker
Scrabble Word Checker is a simple tool that checks if a word is valid in the latest official Scrabble dictionary and shows you its definition. Type a word, hit Check, and you get a yes or no. Two word lists are supported:
- NWL2023 - The NASPA Word List 2023 Edition has 196,601 words and is the latest official Scrabble word list for use in the United States and Canada.

To change word lists, use the switch at the bottom of the site. Your choice is remembered on this device. Every word has its own page, so you can link straight to a result (for example, /qi).
How the check works
Both lists are loaded in full, 284,585 unique words between them, straight from the official NWL2023 and CSW24 releases with their definitions. Each word page shows which list it belongs to, its position in that list, its Scrabble point value, front and back hooks (one letter added), and anagrams. Word lists are updated when NASPA or Collins publish a new edition; the current editions are NWL2023 (in effect since 29 February 2024) and CSW24.
Tournament mode
For club and tournament challenges use the Scrabble word judge (tournament mode): enter every word formed by a play (up to eight) and get one Acceptable or Unacceptable verdict in NWL2023 or CSW24, with no definition, part of speech or points shown and no hint of which word failed, so nothing is given away mid-game. Free API
Developers can call https://scrabble-checker.com/api/word/qi and get JSON back: validity in each list, definition, and points. No key needed; please cache responses.

Scrabble Word Checker is built and maintained by David Chamberlin of Chamberlin Enterprises in Michigan. It is free, has no account, and stores nothing about you beyond anonymous usage counts.
