Privacy Policy
Effective and last updated October 8, 2026
Scrabble Word Checker (scrabble-checker.com) is run by Chamberlin Enterprises LLC in Harbor Springs, Michigan ("we," "us"). This policy explains what the site collects, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.
The short version
- You never have to sign up or give us your name to check a word.
- We count page views and word lookups so we can improve the site, without cookies unless you accept them.
- We never sell your information, and we do not share it for advertising.
- Google Analytics sets cookies only if you accept analytics cookies, and you can change your mind any time.

Information we collect
Words and pages. The words you look up, the word list you use, and the pages you visit.
Device details. Device type, browser, operating system, screen width, language, the site that sent you here, any campaign tags in the link, and a rough location (country, region, and city) that our host works out from your connection. We do not store your IP address with these records.
Visit numbers. A random number for this visit (sc_sid) so page views are not double counted. If you accept analytics, a second random number (sc_vid) lets our own counter recognize a returning visitor.
Server logs and security. Our host, Vercel, keeps standard request logs, including IP address, for security, and its firewall may ask a browser to pass a quick check to stop scrapers. Our statistics service uses your IP address for a moment to limit floods of requests, without saving it.
What you send us. If you email us or use the free word API, we get what you send. Buy Me a Coffee is a separate service with its own privacy policy.
How we use it
- To run the word checker and the word judge, and keep them fast.
- To see which words, pages, and word lists are used, so we can improve the site.
- To spot and block bots and scrapers.
- To answer you if you write to us.
- To understand how the site is used through Google Analytics, if you accept analytics cookies.
We do not use your information to make automated decisions about you, and we do not use it to train artificial intelligence.
Cookies and your choices
Cookies are small files a website saves in your browser, and similar tools save information in your browser's storage. We use them in two groups:
Strictly necessary. These are always on because the site needs them: your cookie choice (sc-consent, 12 months), your word list and Word Judge lock (wordlist and judge_lock, until cleared), a visit number that ends with your visit (sc_sid), and our host's short security check.
Analytics, only if you accept. Google Analytics sets _ga and _ga_6E9WVZ79DS, which last up to 13 months, and our own counter keeps a returning-visitor number (sc_vid) in your browser. They do not tell us who you are, and advertising features are off. Before you choose, and if you reject, nothing is sent to Google Analytics, and Vercel Web Analytics counts page views without cookies. You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
When you first visit, a popup lets you accept all, reject all, or manage your preferences, and rejecting is as easy as accepting. You can change your choice any time with Your Privacy Choices at the bottom of every page, or by clearing this site's storage in your browser.
How we share it
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising. We share it only in these ways:
- Companies that help us run the website, only so they can do that work for us: our host (Vercel, for hosting, security, and cookieless page counts), our database (Supabase, which stores our page and word statistics), Google Analytics if you accept it, and Resend, which sends our own site reports to us.
- Our ads are our own house ads. They use no cookies and do not follow you to other websites.
- When the law requires it, for example to answer a subpoena or court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our customers or others.
- If the business changes hands. If Scrabble Word Checker is sold or merged, records would move to the new owner, who would have to honor this policy.
How long we keep it
- Page and word statistics: as long as they help us run the site. They are never tied to your name.
- Website logs: our host keeps short technical logs for security and troubleshooting, then deletes them.
- Analytics: analytics cookies last up to 13 months, and Google Analytics keeps detailed event data for no more than 14 months.
- Emails: as long as the conversation is useful.
- Your cookie choice: 12 months, then the site asks again.
How we protect it
The site is served only over HTTPS with strict security headers, and our providers encrypt data in transit and at rest. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what we collect small. If a security breach ever affects your information, we will tell you as the law requires.
Your choices and rights
- Ask to see the personal information we have about you, or get a copy of it.
- Ask us to correct information that is wrong.
- Ask us to delete your information, unless we need to keep it for work we are doing for you or the law.
- Turn analytics off any time with Your Privacy Choices, or clear this site's storage in your browser to remove our visit numbers.
Depending on where you live, state privacy laws may give you more rights, such as opting out of the sale or sharing of your information, targeted advertising, or profiling. We do not sell or share personal information or use it for targeted advertising or profiling, and we honor requests to see, correct, or delete information from everyone, wherever they live.
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as reject all and show "Opt-out signal honored" under Your Privacy Choices. Some browsers also send a Do Not Track signal; there is no common standard for it, so the site does not respond to it separately, but Global Privacy Control works as described.
To make a request, email david@chamberlinenterprises.com. Because we do not know your name, clearing this site's storage in your browser is the quickest way to remove our visit numbers from your device. We may ask you to confirm a few details so we know the request is really from you, and someone you authorize may ask for you. We respond within 45 days, and if we cannot do what you ask, we will explain why. We will never treat you differently for using these rights.
Children
The site is a word reference that people of all ages use, but it is not directed to children under 13, and it does not ask anyone for personal information. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you think a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Other websites and visitors outside the U.S.
The site links to NASPA, Collins, Buy Me a Coffee, and our company site. Those sites have their own privacy practices, and this policy covers scrabble-checker.com only. We are based in Michigan, and information you send us is stored and handled in the United States.
Changes to this policy
We review this policy at least once a year and when our practices change. We will post any update here with a new date at the top, and for important changes we will also put a notice on the website before they take effect.
