Our commitment

Scrabble Word Checker wants everyone to be able to use this website, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, voice control, magnification, or zoom. We work to make the site accessible and to keep it that way as it changes.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) are the international standard for web accessibility, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). We designed and tested this website to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We are not aware of any content on it that does not meet the standard. If you find any, please tell us and we will fix it.

How we checked

This website was evaluated on September 29, 2026 by Chamberlin Design, the company that built it (a self-evaluation):

• Automated testing with axe, the accessibility testing engine from Deque Systems, against every WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA rule it checks, on every type of page, on a computer and a phone.
• Hands-on checks of keyboard use, visible focus, color contrast, zoom and reflow down to a 320 pixel wide screen, form labels and error messages, and moving content.

What we did

• The word check, word list switch, and word judge all work with a keyboard, with a visible focus outline.
• Results are written out in text (valid or not, the list, and the point value), not shown by color alone.
• Text and buttons meet the WCAG color contrast levels in both the regular and tournament themes.
• Pages zoom to 200% and fit a 320 pixel wide screen without scrolling sideways.
• The cookie popup never blocks the page, works with a keyboard and a screen reader, and rejecting is as easy as accepting.

Technology

The site is built with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and WAI-ARIA, and relies on them to be accessible. It is designed to work with current versions of Safari, Chrome, Edge, and Firefox, and with screen readers such as VoiceOver, TalkBack, and NVDA.
